    Welcome Back

    Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at Valley Middle School. I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and ready for the school year to start. I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to open Valley Middle School to all 7th and 8th Graders in Weld RE-1. We look forward to a great school year.

Many parents and students may be feeling nervous about a new and changing school environment. This is completely understandable. Staff, parents, and students have met multiple times to build a transition plan. The ultimate goal is for us to come together and build a welcoming and cohesive school culture and community. Together, we will honor past traditions and build new ones. Viking Strong United as One.

For the 2025-2026 school year we will continue implementing “Seven Mindsets.” The program focuses on helping students in their social emotional growth. The themes of “Seven Mindsets” are: Everything is Possible, Passion First, We Are Connected, 100% Accountable, Attitude of Gratitude, and Live to Give.

This year we will continue with our “House System.” Each student will be assigned to one of four “Houses”: Valor, Strength, Honor, or Courage. Each house will have roughly the same number of students from each grade level. The purpose of the “House System” is to build school culture and foster relationships across grade levels and beyond social/friend groups. There will be friendly competitions between the houses in things such as the Viking Challenge, spirit week participation, cumulative GPA, and community service projects.

Our continued commitment is to provide the safest school environment possible for all students and staff. Students, staff, and adult visitors are required to wear a school ID or visitor badge when on campus during school hours. Please remember, all guests are required to enter through the main entrance and report directly to the office. If you need to meet with a member of the Valley Middle School staff, please schedule an appointment to ensure availability.

If you are transporting your student to and from school, we respectfully ask that you drop off and pick up your student on either 2nd Avenue or 3rd Street. This will cut down on congestion around the buses on 4th Street. Thank you.

As always, our staff is here to inspire and teach students the essential skills necessary to successfully transition to the next level of their education and beyond. This is our collective purpose and our reason for being at Valley Middle School. It is also the lens through which we make decisions.

We have an amazing staff at Valley Middle School. They are committed to bringing your student the best possible educational experience. The following individuals are new to our staff or have changed positions:

Title VI & VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Title IX

Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.

Regardless of whether sexual harassment (that includes sexual violence) occurs at school, Title IX obligates school districts to address any impact of that conduct on students that interferes with their ability to access their education. This means that schools must provide students with their Title IX rights and the contact information for adults at school who can respond to allegations of misconduct and put in place interim remedies to support impacted students. If students experience harassment or retaliation resulting from the exercise of their Title IX rights, then schools are legally obligated to take action to stop it from recurring.

In terms of Title IX investigations, the School District is obligated to investigate and take action to stop misconduct that is impacting students at school, but there is not a strict timeline for such investigations. When the same allegations are being investigated by law enforcement, then the School District wants to minimize potential trauma for students by using information from law enforcement's investigation as much as possible. Most often, we do this by, among other things, using information in police reports, juvenile petitions, and information shared by the DA’s office as the substantive information for the School District’s Title IX investigation while also providing due process to the involved parties as required by the U.S. Department of Education rules and regulations governing school districts. While law enforcement investigations and any related legal proceedings are being conducted, the School District’s focus is on providing interim remedies to support students.
